Home-Grown solution saves shopping extravaganza—Reneé Hill
December 3, 2008: The Home-Grown Alternatives shopping extravaganza will celebrate its 13th year on Saturday – but the celebrations almost didn’t happen.
Founding organisers Mary Tatem and Christine Wellman had decided to give this year a miss, but enthusiastic crafts people and others convinced them otherwise and they were able to pull together a dedicated committee which is helping to make Home-Grown Alternatives 2008 a reality.

November 30, 2007: The popular Home Grown Alternatives Christmas Market will be held tomorrow at St. Paul’s Christian Education Centre, in Paget. Organisers Mary Tatem and Deirdre Furtado told The Royal Gazette there will be 24 participants this year. “These artisans will display and sell their own unique crafts, some of which have been designed and made especially for this event,” Mrs. Tatem said. “We have old favourites (returning) like Ann Coakley, who makes nativity scenes and ornaments, while Burton Jones has his Bermuda cedar products and Carla Marquardt’s stained glass ornaments and unique fish sculptures are to be expected.”

Ten years of offering Home Grown Alternatives—Reneé Hill
December 1, 2005: This year marks the tenth anniversary of Home Grown Alternatives. Mary Tatem and Christine Wellman knew there was a market for local products and the decade-long success of their project has proven how right they were.

November 22, 2002: TOMORROW’S Home-Grown Alternatives (HGA) “made in Bermuda” will provide local shoppers with the seventh annual opportunity to Buy Bermuda as the Christmas season approaches. The seventh annual HGA will be held at St. Paul’s Christian Education Centre in Paget, starting at 10 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m. Ruth Thomas will officially open the event. A series of draws will include prizes of gifts, a weekend at Stonington Beach, dinners and gift vouchers.
